What We’ll Talk About
This initial consultation appointment is a focused conversation about what has been going on and what led you to reach out. We will also review your history and provide feedback about what might be going on and suggestions for next steps.
Different people need different kinds of support.
Some people may only need the initial consultation and recommendations. Others may continue with brief therapy or be directed to another service or provider that better fits their needs.
When Brief Therapy May Be a Good Fit
When brief therapy is appropriate, sessions are focused, practical, and goal-oriented, and often range from 1-12 sessions.
Rather than beginning open-ended therapy, we identify a specific concern, set realistic goals, and use clinically grounded strategies to support progress.
Brief therapy may focus on concerns such as:
Stress management
Sleep habits or insomnia-related concerns
Low mood or low motivation
Anxiety or performance anxiety
ADHD-related follow-through and executive functioning
Work or academic stress
Difficulty maintaining routines
Short-term coping and adjustment concerns
Brief therapy is not appropriate for every concern or situation. If your needs would be better served by another provider, psychological testing, a formal evaluation, longer-term therapy, medication consultation, or a higher level of care, those recommendations may be discussed.
When Testing, Evaluation, or Referral May Be Recommended
Sometimes, a concern that initially seems like a therapy issue may benefit from additional clarification.
For example, someone may schedule a consultation because they feel depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, unfocused, or stuck. During the appointment, we may identify patterns suggesting that psychological testing, diagnostic clarification, medical consultation, or a formal evaluation would be more appropriate before deciding on treatment or another plan to manage symptoms or address disability matters.
In other cases, referral to another therapist, psychiatrist, specialist, evaluator, or treatment program may be recommended.
How This Fits With Our Other Services
This consultation is an optional starting point for adults who are unsure what type of mental health service they need, want clinical guidance but may not need a formal in-depth evaluation or testing right away, or who might be wanting brief therapy for a specific issue.
Brief therapy/treatment planning consultation and evaluation services are separate. If documentation, disability-related opinions, workplace or academic recommendations, diagnostic clarification, or formal testing are needed, a separate evaluation may be recommended.
If you already know that you need a specific evaluation that is offered in our scheduling/booking system, you may schedule that service directly.

Amica Clinical Consulting works with adults from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences, including professionals, adult students, and individuals managing demanding work, academic, family, cultural, or caregiving responsibilities.

This includes knowledge of the experiences that may be relevant for diverse groups, including adult women, federal employees, military Veterans, BIPOC adults, younger Gen X adults, older millennials, the queer community, and individuals with ties to the Northeast (USA), the Puerto Rican diaspora, Caribbean communities, and other intersectional identities.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this ongoing therapy?
It may be the first step toward brief therapy, but it is not automatically ongoing therapy. This service begins with an initial consultation. For some people, brief therapy may be appropriate. For others, recommendations may include referral, formal evaluation, medical consultation, longer-term therapy, accommodations or disability-related evaluation, return-to-work planning, or another type of care.
Is this required before scheduling another Amica service?
No. This consultation is optional.
If you already know that you need a specific evaluation or consultation offered by the practice, you may schedule that service directly when available.
Evaluation for Workplace Accommodations
Can this consultation help determine whether I need an evaluation service for things like FMLA, short-term disability or accommodations?
Yes. The consultation may help clarify whether a separate and specific type of evaluation is appropriate.
This may include workplace accommodations, academic accommodations, short-term disability, or other documentation-related evaluation needs within our scope of services.
Can this help me decide whether I need testing, an evaluation, or another provider?
Yes. This consultation may help identify whether brief therapy, psychological testing, a formal evaluation, referral to another provider, medical consultation, or another treatment option may be appropriate.
Do you offer online services outside Florida?
Yes. Amica Clinical Consulting can provide online services to adults located in PSYPACT-participating states, including AL, AZ, AR, CO, CNMI, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WV, WI, and WY. Start With a Consultation
Many people are unsure whether they need therapy, an evaluation, documentation, or another type of support. The initial consultation is designed to help clarify what may be going on and what next step makes the most sense. If you need a more in-depth evaluation, such as a short-term disability evaluation or workplace accommodations evaluation, we can discuss what that would look like, fees, and timeframes.
You will leave with a clearer understanding of your concerns, clinically informed recommendations, and a practical plan for moving forward.
Schedule an initial therapy and treatment planning consultation to determine whether brief therapy, referral, evaluation, or another recommendation is the right fit for your needs.
